Stove History

January, 1878 - J.R. Van Evera & Co. have sold over 100 Round Oak stoves in the city of Maquoketa, Iowa, which is double the number of any one kind ever sold there, and this fact goes to show that they are the best in use.

January, 1894 - Woodruff & Sons, stove manufacturers at Salem, Ohio, say that although prices were lower than formerly their business during the year 1893 was 20 per cent greater than during the previous year. The business outlook for 1894 is regarded by them as fair. The repairs at their shop have been completed and work will be resumed sometime this month, although the exact date has not yet been decided upon.

January, 1889 - The main building of the Detroit Stove Works, Detroit, Mich., was destroyed by fire early Sunday morning, Jan. 21. The watchman, James Middleton, was burned to death. Loss $30,000. The fire is supposed to have been the work of an incendiary.

January, 1901 - William H. Dwyer, treasurer of the Peninsular Stove Company of Detroit, Mich., died at his home Sunday night, January 13. He was only 38 years of age and born in Poughkeepsie, NY in 1863. He had been connected with the Peninsular Stove Co. since it was organized by his father, James D. Dwyer in 1881.

January, 1899 - E. Bussey, E. Bussey, Jr., C.A. Shepard, W. Ross, W.H. Quigley and C.W. Macy are the incorporators of the Gold Coin Stove Co., of Troy, N.Y., capitalized at $40,000, for the manufacture of stoves.

January, 1894 -The Buck's Stove & Range Co., of St. Louis, MO, resumed work today, Jan. 18, as a matter of charity to its 350 employes. It is said there is no demand for goods, but they will be made for two months and stored.
